From Graham Motion and the frosty Fair Hill this morning
Yesterday to Today: Rolling Mill Farm, now the site of theMaryland Agricultural Resource Council, was newly purchased by John M. Curley in 1976;
Snowden Carter wrote “Even if (he) never breeds a horse at his new 157-acre farm on Shawan road, he deserves the gratitude of Maryland’s Thoroughbred industry for having put back into production a farm which only two years ago seemed certain to become a housing development.” (Maryland Horse, December 1976) Here’s to its continued preservation.
This Sunday, the MHBA will host the 78th annual Maryland Yearling Show. The event offers breeders an opportunity to show off their Maryland-bred yearlings while making them eligible for lucrative prizes. Held from 1932-1959 in front of the old Pimlico clubhouse, past participants have been a who’s who of the racing world.
